What is a photofacial?
A photofacial is an anti-aging therapy that uses noninvasive intense pulsed light (IPL) to improve the tone, texture, and look of your skin.
Mudgil Dermatology offers a photofacial to address lesions and signs of aging on your face, chest, arms, and even large areas of your body.
How does a photofacial work?
The IPL technology at Mudgil Dermatology uses the optimal wavelength of light to trigger a photorejuvenation process. The technology sends photons into the cells of your skin. Inside your cells, cellular powerhouses called mitochondria absorb the light, sparking a process that supercharges healthy cell production.
The process also promotes healing by boosting the production of collagen, enzymes, and cell growth. As an added benefit, increased collagen production helps prevent scar tissue from forming. This process can clear away vascular lesions and pigmented lesions by targeting hemoglobin (for vascular lesions) and melanin (for pigmented lesions).
What does a photofacial treat?
At Mudgil Dermatology, Dr. Mudgil recommends a photofacial to minimize or reduce the appearance of:
- Wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Birthmarks
- Freckles
- Rosacea
- Spider veins
A photofacial also helps eliminate broken blood vessels on your face.
How do I prepare for my photofacial?
About two weeks before your photofacial, you want to take especially good care of your skin and avoid treatments that might irritate it. Refrain from:
- Collagen injections
- Waxing
- Chemical peels
- Suntanning (and tanning beds)
Be sure to tell Dr. Mudgil and the team at Mudgil Dermatology about any medications, vitamins, or herbal remedies you’re taking, as these may interfere with the healing process.
What happens during my photofacial?
Dr. Mudgil cleans your treatment area and applies a cooling gel. You put on goggles to protect your eyes from the light.
Dr. Mudgil then places the handheld photofacial device against your skin, moving it across your treatment area. You feel a slight snap as pulses of light penetrate your skin.
Your entire treatment typically lasts just 20-30 minutes. Dr. Mudgil may suggest a series of photofacials to achieve maximum results.
