PRP/PRF Treatments
Are you looking for a more natural solution to restore your youthful look? You may want to consider platelet-rich plasma (PRP). At Mudgil Dermatology, dermatologist Adarsh Vijay Mudgil, MD, uses the power of PRP from a tiny sample of your own blood to supercharge aesthetic treatments, such as fillers or laser resurfacing. PRP also can promote the growth of new, healthy hair if you’re experiencing hair loss. What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?
PRP is a natural blood product that contains a concentrated amount of platelets, growth factors, and specialized cells, which are the cells in your blood responsible for healing injured tissue. Athletes have relied on PRP for years to promote healing following an injury.
More recently, doctors have used PRP as an aesthetic treatment to rejuvenate the skin. PRP may help:
- Minimize lines and wrinkles
- Smooth acne scars
- Reduce stretch marks
- Correct skin pigmentation
- Improve tone and texture
Mudgil Dermatology also offers PRP injections to restore hair loss by promoting the growth of new hair. Science shows that high concentrations of platelets help to promote hair growth by extending the growth phase of your hair cycle.
How does PRP work?
PRP works by accelerating your body’s natural healing process. When injected or placed on your skin, the regenerative properties of PRP work to stimulate the production of new cells in your body. These healthier cells replace damaged older cells.
As you age, your skin makes less and less collagen, an essential building block of youthful skin that provides elasticity and strength. PRP counters the decline in collagen, helping to restore your skin’s youthful glow and firmness.
What happens during PRP facial treatment?
Dr. Mudgil draws a few tablespoons of blood from your arm. The blood goes into a medical device called a centrifuge, which spins and isolates the growth factors into a concentrated regenerative product.
He then performs your facial treatment, either injecting fillers in a PRP facial or as a PRP facelift in conjunction with laser resurfacing.
During the PRP part of your treatment, he paints or injects the purified growth factors onto or into your skin. These growth factors trigger a natural healing process in multipotent stem cells to generate new, more youthful skin.
Afterward, you may notice your skin appears radiant and tighter, although results vary.
What happens during PRP hair treatment?
Similar to the facial treatment, Dr. Mudgil injects PRP into your scalp where hair loss has occurred. The injection process is quick.
Dr. Mudgil usually recommends a series of monthly sessions to achieve maximum results. However, your injection schedule is tailored to various factors, such as your hormones, pattern and amount of hair loss, and family history of baldness.
